Shepherd General – Molesworth Station, Blenheim

THE OPPORTUNITY

Imagine living and working on New Zealand’s largest farm – Molesworth Station. You’ll be part of a supportive team that looks out for one another, joining horseback musters and camping out – this is more than just a job; it’s a lifestyle and a community.

As a shepherd general, you’ll work closely with the farm manager, who’ll support your learning, growth, and confidence in all aspects of high-country farming.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Work hands-on with livestock, contributing to day-to-day stock management
  • Get involved in tractor work – full training provided
  • Help with general farm maintenance and fencing projects
  • Join horseback musters alongside your team of dogs

You’ll work alongside a friendly, experienced team who value sharing knowledge and supporting each other’s success.

Molesworth offers good opportunities for dog work, with diverse hill country terrain. You’ll thrive on variety and enjoy rolling up your sleeves to tackle all aspects of farm life.

This is a fixed-term opportunity until the end of May 2026.

THE FARM

Molesworth is an awe-inspiring high-country property spanning 180,787 hectares across the North Canterbury and Marlborough regions.

Nestled between the Kaikōura mountains, the Wairau River, and Hanmer Springs, Molesworth offers a unique blend of heritage, scale, and natural beauty.

Home to around 5,500 Angus beef cattle, the station combines rich farming tradition with progressive and sustainable pastoral practices, all while protecting the land’s remarkable biodiversity.

ABOUT YOU

You’re someone who’s keen to grow your skills, enjoys working as part of a close-knit team, and doesn’t mind a bit of isolation if it means being part of something special. You’re practical, motivated, and always looking for better ways to get the job done.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience working with horses
  • A reliable, organised, and self-motivated approach to your work
  • A positive attitude to shared living and teamwork
  • A proactive mindset around health, safety, and caring for farm assets
