Chef – Waiheke Island

We’re looking for a creative, well-rounded chef who values quality, enjoys a calm, low-pressure workspace, and can confidently run a small kitchen. You’ll craft balanced, well-executed daily table d’hôte menus in a relaxed, high-end setting.

From the bench to the BBQ, it’s a kitchen with an ocean view.

Cooking for a maximum of 18 guests – established menu and style that can be followed, training and direction given, with room to add your own creativity.

Breakfast/Brunch – working alongside the current breakfast chef to cover 2 mornings a week, simple baking, cooked breakfasts, savory and sweet.

Prep for light lunch meals that staff can easily serve.

Dinner 5 nights a week – prepare a 4-course table d hote menu, Canapes, Entrée, Main & Dessert + working around guests’ dietary restrictions and requests.

Our food style is more Bistro, than fussy fine dining. Technical ability is appreciated, and a passion for simple, beautiful, flavour-driven food is what matters most.

What you bring

·  Skilled chef with a strong eye for flavour and presentation—putting together elegant, balanced plates that make guests feel cared for.

·  Confidence working solo in a quiet environment, creating daily table d’hôte menus and accommodating guest’s dietary needs and requirements.

·  Ability to manage multiple cooking styles and produce cohesive menus.

·  Comfortable handling ordering, procurement, and day-to-day kitchen operations.

·  An understanding of personalised service and the importance of guest experience.

This role suits a hands-on Head Chef, a Sous Chef ready for the next step, or an experienced Chef de Partie with the right background.

What we offer

·  A unique position in one of New Zealand’s most admired small hotels.

·  A summer on Waiheke—beaches, tracks, vineyards, plus easy trips to Auckland.

·  Creative freedom within flexible guidelines.

·  Supportive owners and a passionate team who value skill and professionalism.

·  Competitive salary and excellent lifestyle benefits.

·  A 5-day, 40-hour roster (including 2 split shifts), no expectation to work beyond this – typical roster 3 days a week 3pm – 9.30pm, 2 days a week 7am – 11am & 3pm – 9.30pm.

·  Subsidised accommodation in a shared staff house.

·  Potential partner role in Front of House/Housekeeping if needed.
