Bee Keeper – Manawatu

About Us We are a small family owned and operated business based in the Manawatu. Our hives are scattered around the local area in mostly urban and lifestyle settings. We are on a mission to safely provide bees into the local community to help gardens and urban settings flourish.

We are seeking an experienced beekeeper to join our small team for the upcoming pollination and honey season.

Roles and Responsibilities;

• Inspecting hives and prioritizing bee health and productivity
• Swarm control and general beekeeping activities
• General hive maintenance
• Disease and mite recognition and control
• Recognition of a failing queen and re-queening.
• Ensuring our urban beehives thrive and flourish, making sure they have everything they need to do their job as well as they possibly can.

What We’re Looking For;

• A passion for beekeeping and optimising hive health.
• A minimum of 2-3 years of beekeeping experience (negotiable on less experience for the right person), ideally commercial experience but not essential.
• Strong personal values
• Can think on your feet, but also follow instructions when asked.
• Confidence in speaking to new people with great communication skills on regular visits
• An appreciation for flexibility and autonomy
• Someone with a motivated attitude with a strong work ethic, that is efficient, detail orientated, has a professional image and can take on feedback when given.
• Someone who is physically fit and can met the physical demands of beekeeping. Non smoker / vaper.
• No allergies to beestings (as the odd one is inevitable)

About the role

• No late night or early morning work involved.
• Must have your own vehicle that is appropriate for beekeeping, NZ drivers license required.
• Applications for this position should have a NZ residency or a valid NZ work permit.
• Casual contract for seasonal work.
• Flexible days and hours, preferably within normal business hours – No public holiday work required
• Hourly wage + travel allowance while at work – pay dependent on experiences
• Casual contract so no set hours, hours will vary weekly depending on the season how much work the applicant wants.
